Two days national conference was organised on
MODERN APPROACHES IN DRUG DISCOVERY, NANOFORMULATIONS AND PHARMACOKINETICS
by Department of Pharmaceutics from 2207-2016 to 23-07-2016 in the Vels University Campus at Pallavaram, Chennai. A huge number of participants from various parts of India gathered to hear the plenary lectures delivered by eminent personalities in the specialized areas.
The objective of
this workshop was to help the participants acquaint themselves with the dynamic
aspects of the specialized topics, which they can apply in their research work.
This conference provided an opportunity for the participants to interact with eminent
personalities to acquire the current developments in the global scenario.

- Vels University signs MoU with Pharmaceutical Industries
Vels University
has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with major
pharmaceutical companies on September 23, 2010 in the ceremony held at
Vels University Campus, Chennai. The leading pharmaceutical companies-
Tablets India Limited, Edict Pharmaceuticals Pvt. Ltd., Kniss
Laboratories (P) Limited and Herbal Galanicals have signed MOU with Vels
University. They mutually extend their expertise and facilities for
development of new formulations and sort out the problems in their
production. They also work together in areas like development of new
chemical entities of pharmaceutical interest, identification and
documentation of rare medicinal herbs in India, development of new
analytical methods for raw materials and formulations. The
pharmaceutical industries and the University agreed to share the
facilities and faculties for the purpose of identifying the problems
existing in the health sector and sort them out through high quality
research. This bilateral relationship will also be utilized for
addressing the gap between academic skills and the technical skills that
the pharmaceutical industries expecting from the fresh graduates and
post graduates. Thus, the MoU will not only increase the employability
of students studying in Vels University, but also helps to attain global
standards in pharmaceutical education and research.
The

- VELS UNIVERSITY CONDUCTED SEMINAR ON ASPECTS OF PHARMACEUTICAL PROCESS ANALYTICAL TECHNOLOGY
Department of
Pharmaceutics and Pharmaceutical Analysis, School of Pharmaceutical
Sciences, Vels University, had conducted a Seminar on the topic “Aspects
of Pharmaceutical Process Analytical Technology” on August14, 2010 at
VIBA auditorium, in the VELS University Campus. The seminar was presided
over by the Dr P Umapathy, General Manager, Microlabs Ltd, Bangalore.
This seminar was
aimed to fill the existing lacuna of academic and industrial
professionals on the continuously changing scenario of pharmaceutical
quality assurance system. The speaker had thrown light on the
requirement for implementation of Process Analytical Technology (PAT) in
pharmaceutical manufacturing units. He also addressed the importance of
‘Design Space’ in improving the consistency of the product quality. Dr.
Umapathi also explained about the newer spectroscopical devices and
their roles in the implementation of PAT. At the outset, he also
discussed about the economy involved in the implementation of PAT and
the difficulties going to be faced by the smaller pharma companies.

Vice-Chancellor, Vels University had lighted the lamp and given the
inaugural address. Dr. V.Ravichandiran, Director, School of
Pharmaceutical Sciences, Vels University welcomed the delegates and
requested them to utilize the platform to update their knowledge on this
topic. Heads of various departments, faculties, scholars and
professionals from academia and industry had participated in this
seminar.
